Here's what our customers have to say:
Last night Kayla cut my hair for my first visit to Wavelengths. I have kinda difficult hair; if you cut it too short the next day I look like a toilet brush, too long and I need another cut three days later. It usually takes 3-6 months for a stylist to figure out the right length and that has been true at one of the Bumble & Bumble salons in Manhattan and a top tier salon in Boston. I told Kayla what the goal was but honestly I didn’t really expect anything other than what I am used to; far too short on the first visit. So Kayla actually nailed it first time, she didn’t just get it right, she gave me perhaps the best cut I can remember having. Kayla, you are A ROCK STAR. I can’t thank you enough and can’t wait to come back again.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
Kayla always does a great job coloring and cutting my hair. I really love how it turned out today! Everyone here is always very nice. Thank you all!
Tried Wavelengths after reading the reviews on Yelp and after being unable to find a stylist in the area that can cut and style naturally curly hair. Chelsea recommended William and he is a Godsend!!! Took his time, gave me a great cut and style and I learned so much about taking good care of my curly hair. He is the first stylist I have ever been too that sees hair design as art instead of just a job.
Great space, welcoming staff, great technique. I don’t even bother requesting a specific stylist since they are all that good. Or because I’m not that particular about my hair (I want ease, movement, and flexibility of styling). Also, love the Bumble and Bumble products they use. Price is pretty comparable to the rest of the area.
UPDATE: Brittany saved my hair! I went to a different salon and asked for a chin-length bob. The stylist gave me a bob that looked cute for about a week, then It went bad. The stylist didn’t put any shape or layering in, so I ended up with what would have become a mushroom/prince valiant ‘do if Brittany hadn’t saved me. She was patient and careful, adjusting as I made requests and giving me an awesome cut! I am a Wavelengths convert and will ask for Brittany everytime!
I have fine curly hair, and hate getting updos, since many hair dressers don’t know what to do with my curls. That is pretty much the opposite of the experience I had at Wavelengths. My best friend reserved appointments for the bridal party for her wedding and I was happily surprised by the results of my updo. My hair was expertly styled, and it stayed put in the summer heat of the outdoor ceremony, all the way into late night. my friend (the bride’s) updo was absolutely gorgeous, and it looked even better than the picture that she asked the hair dresser replicate. The bridal party had some extreme wedding day drama (let’s just say sisters can be pretty nasty to each other) and the staff at Wavelength’s remained professional when tensions were high among the bridal party. Prices were a little high, but you get what you pay for. The bride also had her make up done, which stayed put despite the 90+ degree heat. I would recommenced to any local brides.
I have been living in Durham for almost four years and in that time I had yet to find a decent establishment to cut my hair. Never did I have this problem in New York or Los Angeles. Recently, on a recommendation, I went to Wavelengths. Was totally surprised. After to mis-fires, because the people who cut my hair left, today Brittany Rich, got it right and not only right, did an incredible and wonderful job. I highly recommend this salon.
We recently moved to Durham. I have tried several hair salons and hadn’t found a good fit yet, that is until I found Wavelengths. I wasn’t sure what to expect as I had never seen the place before but was referred by a friend. The staff was friendly when taking my appointment and they were gracious upon my arrival, offering me tea or water as I briefly waited. The ambiance is nice, creative and not the sort of “cold trendy” vibe you too often get these days. However, it wasn’t old school either, just a unique and positive vibe. -I immediately liked it. Dani cut my hair. She was enthusiastic, nice to talk with and very welcoming. You can tell she really cares about what she does, she considers it an art-form. But none of this matters if your haircut is not good. Thankfully, I’m happy to report that I received the best haircut I’ve gotten since moving here. I think I’ve finally found a place I can continuously go to in Wavelengths and a stylist I trust in Dani. I highly recommend it. I also would suggest requesting Dani, she’s got skills.
I had originally booked another salon (Moshi Moshi) for my wedding party and my hair and makeup, but they were charging WAY TOO MUCH money. So I called Wavelengths frantically in early April (for my memorial day weekend wedding), and luckily they were able to accommodate all 7 of us. Sherry did my hair and makeup for my wedding, and it was gorgeous!! My hair is wavy and very heavy, and she did wonders, putting it into a low curly wonderful up-do. It was perfect!! She also did my makeup (with little instruction from me) due to crazy relative drama, it was natural and lovely and not too over-done.. and it stayed put from noon until 4AM. I would highly recommend Wavelengths to any bride, and bridal party!
I just finished a dry cut with Nick and he and the cut are amazing. Having only left the salon 20 minutes ago, I’ve already been stopped twice to get compliments on my hair. I’m really pleased to have found someone who is so skilled with a precision cut! I have fairly straight, Asian hair so if a cut isn’t done well, it’s very noticeable. My cut today has a lot of movement, the lines are even, and it’s really nicely shaped. I also really appreciate that Nick listened to what I was hoping to accomplish today with the cut. Yay 🙂
